The Importance of Buying Smart
I like to think I’m a fairly savvy buyer, but every once in awhile, I find myself stuck with one or two items like the ones below. Fortunately, this one is just a small booklet, but sometimes, like you, I do get tripped up. Maybe I’m still smarting from R. G. Mitchell’s decision 15 years ago to declare a couple of Y2K titles non-returnable. (They come in handy for gag gifts at the annual Christmas exchange, though.)
No matter how much you try, trends often shift suddenly. The move from VHS to DVD would have been much more gradual if every Sears and Canadian Tire store wasn’t selling DVD players for $29.99. (We still have some VHS visible in a box on the floor and actually sell one or two each month!)
Anyway, I keep these books lying around as a reminder to always try to buy smart.
What titles are sitting in your back room as a monument to sudden shifts in demand?
