Send The Light Adopts Short Discount for Low-Retail Items

Literally days after following Ingram International’s flat rate shipping policy for Canadian orders, Send the Light Distribution is also copying Ingram’s short discount policy for items under $3; in fact the price cut-off, and the quantity needed to eclipse the discount is exactly the same.

In the business of distribution, picking single copies of low dollar items is the most costly part of picking your order. In order to better control the rising cost of order processing we are changing the discount on orders of 1-4 copies of products with a retail value less than $3. The discount on these items will be 20% effective September 4th.

The discount remains unchanged on orders of 5 or more of the same ISBN/product code and the regular discount will apply.  This change will impact less than 3,000 of the over 90,000 items we offer.

While I don’t order much in that price range, I think if I did, I’d have appreciated at least 24 hours notice, if not more.

Also, does this create an incentive for publishers to peg items at $3.00 that would normally have been $2.99 or even $2.49?
