Website Offers Exhaustive ISBN Searching

online book search tool

What if the ISBN that your customer is seeking is legitimate, but the publication exists outside the book trade? Book Manager is great when an item is in the database of its member publishers, but what if it’s ancient, or foreign, or just obscure?

ISBNdb is “…a database of books providing on-line and remote research tools for individuals, book stores, librarians, scientists, etc. Taking data from hundreds of libraries across the world ISBNdb is a unique tool you won’t find anywhere else.” The db in the name is reminiscent of other db (database) sites such as the popular IMDB for movies.

This is a search tool that I guaranty will come in handy.

Even from an author’s perspective this is useful to know… how I can find my own book if it gets lost in a heap of publications. Thanks, Paul.
I also have a question regarding HST. Why does it seem the tax man gets double payment when books are on consignment. That might make a good blog post for your site…

The HST is a VAT, a Value Added Tax. There is no double payment if the parties involved are registered. Tax paid is deducted from tax collected. The situation in Canada allows for non-registered participants because the government finds processing for vendors doing under $30,000 (I think that’s the #) annually not worth the bother; and those vendors may end up in a double-taxed situation; but don’t consider this comment as business advice!
