Promotional Material Doesn’t Match Cook Database

If you want to experience new levels of stress and frustration, here’s an exercise for you…

There is currently a list circulating among local organizers of material available for the upcoming Beth Moore simulcast.  While a few of the products are released through Tyndale, most are from Lifeway, which is distributed in Canada by David C. Cook.

Sadly, very few of the product descriptions can be forced to match up to anything in the Cook database, and the short-code SKUs are completely foreign to Cook’s tagging system.

In my opinion, stores suffer enough with the short discount on Lifeway product — usually around 6% to 14% depending on your freight costs from Paris, Ontario — without having to put up with this crap.

Paul, talk to Sandy at Cook. There is a Beth Moore simulcast kit that is available to the churches that are doing the simulcast so that they can sell the product. We are taking care of the booktable at the church here in town that is doing the simulcast and so the kit is being sent to us. We are handling it for them. Basically I ordered one kit and then we are pulling some other stock to ’round out’ the booktable which is what they have asked for.
Whatever doesn’t sell from the ‘kit’ is being returned after the event. Does this help?

I got an email from Sandy stating that the church in question got an American book list which they never should have received. She sent a Canadian one, but I was somewhat horrified to see the kind of inventory levels they think are needed.

We already had some existing stock of Beth and thought that what we had would be sufficient, but we really don’t have the ‘people resources’ to absorb something of this size and then pack up and return the unsold goods.

Quite honestly, I was horrified at the metrics of this. I thought Lifeway was content to make their money selling the simulcast locations, but apparently I had no idea of the scope of this operation. Because of how I feel about Lifeway in general, I am very uncomfortable in supporting this to that degree. Because I’m sourcing some of the product elsewhere, I am sure DCC will consider our book table “unauthorized” and force the church to do the “Store in a Box.” Don’t really care.
