UK Christian Shops Enter Active Season

While I have enough to keep me busy online with this, Thinking Out Loud, Christianity 201, our store blog, and our store Facebook page; our counterpart in the UK also manages a national directory of Christian Bookstores.

This post from a few days ago notes updated information from 61 of those stores including five new listings. I’m not sure if the challenge of doing this is made easier or more difficult given that blog and directory proprietor Phil Groom’s own industry position was made redundant many months ago.  (And as with this one, he also writes a personal blog!)

In this part of the world, unfortunately I don’t have five new stores to report. In Ontario we find customers still reeling from the closing in Peterborough (Emmaus Road Books); shocked at the news of the closing in Pickering (Michael’s Family Books); and still hearing about the closing in Cornwall (Angel’s Family Books and Gifts).

For those of you who were asking, our Brockville store is now in month #8 of the world’s longest going out of business sale. The Cobourg store is able to support both, though our debt level is very slowly rising, even as we’re current with all suppliers. Honestly, I’d like to sell the contents and fixtures in Brockville to someone in Peterborough or Pickering!  (Or Oshawa or Kingston!)

Thanks Paul. I’d hit that ‘Like’ button but I don’t like the news of those closures; always saddens me when I read of stores closing. Hope for your sake that your Brockville closing down sale doesn’t drag on for too much longer. In the meantime, prayers for and courage to all the staff affected…

..and the quiet closing of Hidden Treasures (Cambridge, ON) in June-which did not make any news…
